About My Pottery
Most of my work is made by using hand building techniques such as coiling, which is building a form layer by layer with hand rolled coils of clay. The coils are stacked and then blended together to form the object, This is more of a traditional technique and amongst the first method to be used in hand-building. Throwing on the wheel presents more of a minimalist form with the ability to construct a more refined form.Ā I at times integrate both techniques along with slab work. I come in with a blank canvas and let the clay form it own organic shape, it is here where my inner connectivity leads me into creating the form and purpose of the object. Almost a transformative state where a hidden language transpires. My work is not one of precision, it is more organic in form and at times delves into a primitive state of construction. This is my natural translation when I am creating, however there is a technical process from beginning to finish to achieve the items practicality and function. This is where I feel the most joy, witnessing the clay become alive, through its many stages. From a block into an object that can be used in your home, whether itĀ be a decorative piece in your home, plates on your table, a ceramic dish filled with your home cooked goodness or a cup in your hand, Just like me and you the pottery I create is imperfect and perfect all at the same time. Each pieces has it own individuality character, purpose, irregularities, form, texture and colour . It is our journey. If you are here with meā¦ Thank you with all my heart.
Much Love Lydia
